risse (2010)

2010 video, works on paper

The video Risse (= cracks) is a study about the human capacity to perceive changes. The video shows the process of cracking paint in a speed, which leads the viewer into a in-between-space of visual perception. The changes are so slow, that they can not be traced by the eyes. But they are fast enough to realize, that the cracks are gradually becoming bigger.  Within only two minutes, the image developed  – unseemingly – into a complex structure of crackings.
